Bargaining in Khan El Khalili and bazaars is widespread, while in the regular shops in the city, prices are fixed. Most shops are usually open from 10:00 to 22:00, while some close for a lunch break from 14:00 to 17:00.
When shopping for street bargains, keep your currency and credit cards out of sight, and separate from your LE. It is easier to trade over a price if you show that you have only a few Egyptian pounds in your wallet! Plus, some traders may urge that they meant $ or £, instead of LE, if they see that you are carrying them.
We suggest you do not venture into a haggling situation if you don’t like the product.
We also recommend you shop around before parting with your money.
You will more than likely find you only get what you paid for; please show extreme caution when approached by locals who want to take you shopping – more often than not, you will find you are paying over the odds for the items concerned.
During your tour/cruise Program, your guides will show you and introduce you to haggling and many of the local handicrafts available.
If you like, you will be visiting a papyrus institute, a perfumery, and a gold shop during your tour.
